I thought I'd share a little bit of what Elizabeth and I have been up to with our stock video production business over the last few months. In March our usual hectic travel schedule interspersed with regular productions with a decent sized cast had come to a screeching halt and I figured the only way to feel even a little creative was to go out and shoot some empty streets with my drone. In May when we felt we could do it safely, we approached a few local businesses about shooting stock footage to make an attempt to capture what a functioning small restaurant or retail business looks like in 2020. I hesitate to call it "COVID-themed" because this is just what the world looks like for now. We can't cast actors, so these are real business owners and their employees doing their thing, and Lizzie who is doing everything from keeping the productions running smoothly to pretending to be a customer and a waitress. All of this was filmed with the absolute minimum amount of equipment I could carry myself, and it's entirely done on a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 4K with two prime lenses, a handheld gimbal, a tripod, and a single c-stand as far as grip was concerned. (Except the drone stuff, that's the usual Inspire 2)
We're keeping the door open to filming more of these for Getty and iStock, so if you run a small business in the Los Angeles area and need some footage of what your "new normal" looks like that you can use for your marketing or social media -- and you don't have a budget to do it -- reach out to us if you think it can be done safely, and we'd love to help.
